California DMV Fee Increase Starts January 1, 2026 — What You Need to Know
If you’re planning to renew your vehicle registration or transfer a title in 2026, there’s an important update you should know: the California DMV will increase its BPA EVR transaction fee by $2 starting January 1, 2026.
This change affects all First-Line Service Providers (FLSPs), including partners like Vitu and DMVdesk, who support offices like Auto International Insurance and Aseguranzadeauto.com in processing DMV services throughout California.
What Is the New DMV Fee?
As of Thursday, January 1, 2026, an additional $2 fee will apply to all BPA E-Filed DMV transactions.
That means any registration renewal, license plate issuance, title transfer, or other DMV-related service processed electronically through a licensed BPA partner will reflect this $2 increase.
What Are BPA E-Filed Transactions?
BPA (Business Partner Automation) E-Filed transactions are DMV services handled through authorized private partners like us, instead of directly through DMV offices. This includes:
-
Replacement tags and plates
-
Stickers for 2027 already available
At Auto International Insurance, we are a trusted DMV partner authorized to perform these services — fast, easy, and often with no lines.
Why Is the DMV Raising Fees?
The California DMV adjusts these fees periodically to support digital infrastructure and service improvements. The new fee applies statewide and must be collected by all authorized partners.
When Does the Fee Apply?
This $2 fee increase applies only to DMV transactions submitted on or after January 1, 2026. Transactions processed in 2025 are not affected.
How Can You Avoid Delays?
If you have an upcoming registration renewal, we recommend renewing before the end of 2025 to avoid the added fee. We’re here to help with:
-
License plate renewal or Tags renewal
-
Auto insurance bundling
-
Sticker printing in office
